QR codes are a tool that allows teachers to lead students to selected information and questions. QR codes are essentially a barcode that is scanned by a mobile device (phone or iPad) that has a QR code reader app installed that takes students to a website, video or text. QR codes can be used by students working individually, as well as in groups, to test their knowledge on questions or further their knowledge on a learning area. QR codes are a fantastic tool that allows students to get up and get active by using them in scavenger hunt where students search the room for the codes.

This website is free to create codes, however their is a paid version that allows you to track code performance, which in my opinion is not really necessary for use in the classroom.

There are a plethora of QR code scanner apps available for free for mobile devices which the majority of all of providing the same service of scanning the code and taking you to the link provided. There are however some free scanners that allow for links to be saved after they have been saved which may be useful in a classroom setting. Students that are taking part in a scavenger hunt activity can hunt the room for the Qr codes and once they have found them all they can return to their seat to follow the links and either answer the question or look a the information from the link.
In regards to the SAMR model, QR codes would fit into the redefinition category as they provide the students with a way to access information that previously was not available to them.
