Kahoot!
Kahoot! is a game-based learning system that allows teachers to create online quizzes, discussions and surveys. Kahoot! allows multiple students to play at the same time and provides them with their results immediately after each question. Many studies such as one conducted by Johns (2015) have found that students react positively to activities that allow them to interact with their teacher and receive feedback immediately, both of which Kahoot! provides. Scores are based on providing the correct answer, as well as the time taken to provide the answer. The correct answer is shown after each question as well as a scoreboard showing the leading teams. This provides students with an incentive to answer the questions correctly to get to the top of the scoreboard. At the completion of the game a final scoreboard is shown with the top 5 teams and their scores, the teacher is also able to review the Kahoot! to view the responses of each student/group.
In order to create a quiz, an account must be created (however this is free). An important benefit of Kahoot! is that in order to partake in a quiz you are not required to create an account. A game pin is provided to the teacher and students input this key to https://kahoot.it/ and provide a nickname and they're in.
During the game the teacher and student screen will differ; the teacher screen will show the question as well as the possible answers which are each linked to a colour and shape. The student screen just contains the 4 colours and shapes located on each corner of the screen. An example of the teacher page and the student page can be seen below.

There are however some negatives to Kahoot!, as it requires students to provide their answer in the shortest amount of time as possible students may just guess their answer or not be able to put as much though into their answer as possible. Therefore it is important to mention to students that they should attempt to give the correct answer without guessing, even if it means they take a bit more time to answer.
Kahoot! is a fantastic tool for use in the classroom to gather information on what students know about certain topics. It can be used prior to covering a new topic to gauge the knowledge students already have, or it can be used prior to the teaching of a topic to measure students learning of the topic. It can also be used following a lesson to activate the student's prior knowledge.
In regards to the SAMR model, Kahoot! would sit in between substitution and augmentation. Multi choice student quizzes are already possible with the use of other apps, however Kahoot! allows the students to receive their results immediately which moves it to the augmentation stage. Kahoot! would also sit in the apply section of Bloom's taxonomy as students are required to apply their current knowledge on the quesitons presented to them in the quiz.
