Callan Gibbons
Welcome to my weebly site! My name is Callan Gibbons, a pre-service teacher in my first year of my Master of Teaching (Primary) degree. I currently hold a Bachelor of Science (Exercise and Sport Science) and have worked in the fitness industry for the past couple of years. Part way through 2016 I wasn't happy with where I was heading and with what I was doing, and I knew that I wouldn't be able to continue on working in the fitness industry for the rest of my life. I had always had an interest in teaching, so I decided to do some volunteer work in the local primary school in a year 5/6 class and a kindergarten class. Through this volunteering I gained an appreciation for what teachers do and I decided it was what I wanted to do with my life. This lead me to apply for the Master of Teaching (Primary) degree at the University of Notre Dame which I commenced at the beginning of 2017. Once I graduate at the end of 2018 I hope to have all the tools necessary to make a difference in my futures students lives and to provide them with a positive and engaging schooling experience.
In my spare time I enjoy going to the gym, both to improve my physical performance as well as others. I currently compete in the sport of powerlifting and have competed in national competitions over the past couple of years. I also combine this with some coaching, to assist new comers to the sport in reaching their goals.
Below you can find an example of a lesson I conducted in one of my first semester units - Planning and Pedagogy. This lesson was aimed at a Year 4 Science class learning about friction
